3 Things to Book Before Booking Your Cake Tasting
How Early is too Early to Order My Wedding Cake
The timeline for your wedding is very important.
You don’t want to miss out on your dream wedding-pro-team, but at the same time making concrete decisions too early in the planning process can be detrimental.
I get asked all the time:
‘Is it too early to order my wedding cake?’
YES, it may be too early to design on a design! And the answer is two-fold:
you have FOMO: you are worried something better will come along after you choose a wedding cake, wedding cupcakes or your dessert table. Your FOMO (fear of missing out) is holding you back
you may not be far enough into the decision making process to order your cake
No, it’s NOT too early to get a preliminary quote and place a deposit to hold your date.
So….you have FOMO? You haven’t made design and color decisions?
BUT you are worried about missing out in your dream cake vendor.
You should definitely order a tasting box from your favorite wedding cake bakery and then ask how to lock in their services for your big day!
it may not be time to decide on the design and details of the design, but it is time to get that deposit in and then meet with the cake baker 4-8 months before your wedding day to finalize the design and flavors.
YES! It can be too early to order your wedding cake!
So, YES, it may be too early to absolutely decide on the design.
But it isn’t too early to book that vendor by securing your date with a deposit.
This is a very unpopular opinion amongst wedding cake makers and all wedding professionals. But I’ll tell you more!
3 Things to Book Before Booking Your Cake Tasting:
Do THIS Prior to Meeting with Your Cake Bakery:
Order Your Attire: this means your wedding dress, suit or outfit that you and your partner are wearing should be ordered.
Finalize Your Color Palette. for example: the colors for the attire of the following people is decided on: groomsman, maid-of-honor, man-of-honor, matron-of-honor, etc.)
Know What Your Centerpieces Will Be AND What Color They Will Be In. for example: I know my centerpieces will be lanterns with flowers around then and the flowers will be peach and burnt orange, keep in mind you may not know the exact TYPES of flowers, that's ok)
Once you have these details decided, circle back with me. Most likely, this will be in August to December 2023.
The earliest that I meet is September 15, 2023 for your date.
Keep in mind, January-March is the most ideal time to meet for your Sept 2024 wedding. If you meet with me too early two things happen:
1) you order a cake and by the time your wedding date comes around you totally forget what you've ordered
2) you meet with me too early and by the time your wedding gets closer you've totally changed colors/themes and you end up paying change fees
Why You Shouldn’t Make Cake Decisions Too Early in the Process
Making lots of changes to your order can have disastrous consequences between you and your vendors.
Having a close relationship with your vendors makes for a perfect wedding day!
Changing Your Mind Over and Over Again CAN:
frustrate your vendors and make them less perceptive to offering you upgrades or extra time
get confusing to you and your vendors, and leads your vendors to wonder if YOU really know what you’ve chosen!
Making Your Final Cake Design Choice Too Early CAN:
mean that you don’t remember what design or flavors you chose when your wedding day rolls round
lead to upcharges for multiple meetings
