The Cake: a Classic Buttercream Wedding Cake with an edible Watercolor Monogram Crest
A wedding crest, a beautiful symbol of your lives! It can be added to custom linens, to your signage and of course, your invitation. But adding a watercolor wedding crest on the icing of your beautiful wedding cake is a timeless and quintessential New England wedding staple.
C&C chose to have a simple, single tiered buttercream cake displayed at their wedding at Acoaxet Club in Southern Massachusetts. Kitchen Cakes (aka: sheet cakes) served the remaining guests.
It’s All In the Details: a Deckle Edge Paper Inspired Buttercream Cake
Torn edge paper is all the rage for invitations, and the same detail rings true for wedding cakes. This cake features a deckle-edge that looks like torn paper at the top edge of the cake. This detail was stunning on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s wedding cake and the detail still has a strong presence in cake designs.
Fresh Blueberries Were Added to the Top of the Cake
We added a pile of fresh blueberries atop the cake when we delivered to the Acoaxet Club Tent. C&C had seen another wedding cake with this detail from another couple’s photo album. It was a beautiful detail!
A Single Tiered Cake + Sheet Cakes for 150 Guests
C&C’s wedding cake is a single tiered buttercream cake, but the remaining guests were served from Kitchen Cakes (aka: sheet cakes).
They didn’t want to have a huge, showstopping wedding cake. Just something small, delicious and personal for photos.
So instead of a tiered wedding cake, they chose just one tier. This one tier wedding cake serves 30 guests and then the remaining 120 guests enjoyed slices from the Sheet Cakes.
We call them sheet cakes, but in reality they are baked as round cakes, so the slices look the same as the beautiful champagne strawberry wedding cake.
The sheet cakes are kept in the kitchen and are then cut and served along with the round wedding cake. The sheet cakes were lemon with raspberry buttercream.
Add a Custom Monogram or Watercolor Crest to Your Cake
We would love to see your watercolor wedding crest and add it to your wedding cake. All of our artwork is hand painted onto thin pieces of rolled fondant. So we can recreate any artwork for you and you can still have delicious buttercream frosting on your wedding cake (and the rolled fondant is just a tiny accent).
